The Philosophical Cockroach

This is humor poetry (well . . . I think it is), about a chance encounter I had with a now long-gone cockroach in that typical legs up pose of “Damn! I do believe I just ingested some really potent poison! Uhhhggg!” Well . . . you get the idea. Under any circumstance, it did not bode well for the critter. This is its epitaph — sorta.

The poisons gone down
in my veins
all I can do is twitch
I’m laying here
looking at the sky
my life is sure
a bitch

Just hours before
the garbage heap
was as plentiful
as could be
and then there was
this white colored stuff
looked interesting
to me

Well, I hardly got it
on my feet
when my legs began to buck
my body twitched
my antennae turned
I was finally out of
luck

And now I’m feeling really bad
as a cockroach could be
wishing I could move
it’s hard to breathe
would someone just
step
on me?

I see a shoe
I see the stare
“Just do it!”
do I squeak
and then the shoe
comes crashing down
in toilet
do I sleep
